Zetabarbara Holcombe age 79 of Plain City passed away Sunday, December 12, 2021 at Bluebird Assisted Living Facility, Marysville. She was born July 7, 1942 in Bellefontaine, Ohio and grew up near Huntsville, Ohio on a farm to the late: Donald M. & Gertrude (Routledge) Nelson.

The family moved to a dairy farm near Sidney, Ohio where she graduated from Fairlawn High School and then to OSU for her Bachelor’s degree and Master’s in Physical Education. She started her teaching career at Bishop Ready High School for two years and then 36 years she taught in the Jonathan Alder School District.

She was an active member in the Plain City Presbyterian Church then at the Cornerstone Mennonite Fellowship Church, Plain City and most recently attended New California Presbyterian Church. In retirement she was passionate about AGLOW International, and volunteered at the Plain City Free Clinic. She was active in the Retired Teachers Association in both Madison and Union Counties and she was a member of the Plain City Book Club.

Survived by her loving husband of 58 years: Charles H. Holcombe, whom she married in Sidney, Ohio in 1963; devoted children: Charles N. “Chip” Holcombe, Daniel (Vanessa) Holcombe, Tiffany (Scott) Jones, Joshua “Drew” (Courtney) Holcombe, Dr. Alexanne (Dr. Jed) Johnson; 9 grandchildren: Mackenzie, Bitia, Dasha, Kidron, Kasen, Alana, Matthew, Boaz, Emmazeta; sister: Dixie Jo Nelson.

The family will receive friends 6 – 8 PM Thursday at the Ferguson Funeral Home, 202 E. Main Street, Plain City, where the funeral will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, December 17, 2021 with visitation one hour prior (10:00 – 11:00). Son-in-law: Pastor Scott Jones officiating and burial Forest Grove Cemetery, Plain City.

My deepest condolences to the family. Mrs. Holcombe was a teacher I will always fondly remember and a wonderful woman.

My deepest sympathy for Tiffany and the whole family! Mrs. Holcomb was always a wonderful teacher and person.

Zeta was a gracious Christian woman. Her children provide that evidence. A teacher friend of mine said she will love the angels. I think the angels have always loved Zeta.

I loved co teaching with her when I got sent to Plain City she taught me things that I had over looked in teaching. She opened my eyes to ways to reach kids in different ways. I will always be thankful for those years of team teaching with her. I never met such a kind sole and loving person. My prayers are with the whole family. When we both had retired I loved running into her and hear her stories of family. The lord received a special angel.

I so remember Mrs. Holcomb from elementary school PE. I could not climb that darn rope that hung from the ceiling of the gym. She would catch my eye and give me an encouraging smile. Even though I never made it to the top, I remember not feeling embarrassed or ashamed because she always made me feel like my best was good enough. I have carried that through my life when things have gotten challenging and tried to teach that to my kids. She touched many lives and I am blessed to have been one of those. Love and prayers to her family.

We are sorry for your loss. It’s been over 20 years since we worked together but memories flood back about the stories you told us about your wife and children.

I have had fond memeries of Mrs Holcomb when i wouid hit golf balls at the park we had great conversation and she will be sadi missed Rick Adkins

Zeta was a dear lady who touched a lot of lives. So sorry to hear of her passing. Blessing to the family.

Sending my deepest condolences to the Holcombe family. I was just thinking of Mrs. Holcombe last week. I have fond memories of phys-ed with her, and revisit them from time-to-time because they're beautiful reminders of the growth that comes from being curious and vulnerable. Will always appreciate Mrs. Holcombe!

My grandmother, she is so special to me I will always miss her and honered her as I always did when I was so far away from her, just saying good bye to her when I needed to go to México made me cry a lot when I was a Little girl, now saying goodbye to her for ever is so painfull, but I now she is in a better Place. Danny, Tiffany, Chip, Drew & Alex...My heart is filled with sadness to hear about your mom. I have fond memories of playing with Danny & Tiffany in the park behind their house. Maybe not such fond memories of gym class since I was never able to climb that darn rope! :)

Wow what a great teacher and lady always had a smile on her face acted as if every child was the only one in her class thought about her a lot over the years and the many life lessons which she taught me.

Holcombe family - I am so sad to hear of the death of your precious Zeta. I have wonderful memories of her. She was always so caring and kind. I am glad to have known her. Love to you all.
