Zetabarbara Holcombe age 79 of Plain City passed away Sunday, December 12, 2021 at Bluebird Assisted Living Facility, Marysville. She was born July 7, 1942 in Bellefontaine, Ohio and grew up near Huntsville, Ohio on a farm to the late: Donald M. & Gertrude (Routledge) Nelson.
The family moved to a dairy farm near Sidney, Ohio where she graduated from Fairlawn High School and then to OSU for her Bachelor’s degree and Master’s in Physical Education. She started her teaching career at Bishop Ready High School for two years and then 36 years she taught in the Jonathan Alder School District.
She was an active member in the Plain City Presbyterian Church then at the Cornerstone Mennonite Fellowship Church, Plain City and most recently attended New California Presbyterian Church. In retirement she was passionate about AGLOW International, and volunteered at the Plain City Free Clinic. She was active in the Retired Teachers Association in both Madison and Union Counties and she was a member of the Plain City Book Club.
Survived by her loving husband of 58 years: Charles H. Holcombe, whom she married in Sidney, Ohio in 1963; devoted children: Charles N. “Chip” Holcombe, Daniel (Vanessa) Holcombe, Tiffany (Scott) Jones, Joshua “Drew” (Courtney) Holcombe, Dr. Alexanne (Dr. Jed) Johnson; 9 grandchildren: Mackenzie, Bitia, Dasha, Kidron, Kasen, Alana, Matthew, Boaz, Emmazeta; sister: Dixie Jo Nelson.
The family will receive friends 6 – 8 PM Thursday at the Ferguson Funeral Home, 202 E. Main Street, Plain City, where the funeral will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, December 17, 2021 with visitation one hour prior (10:00 – 11:00). Son-in-law: Pastor Scott Jones officiating and burial Forest Grove Cemetery, Plain City.
