Dear Marissa, Through your grandmother, Patricia King, I have come to know and love you, Doug, your children and your families. My heart goes out to you at this sad time. I, like many others, appreciate Doug's strong commitment to the Military of our country and above all the special person he was. And I always appreciated stories of the rich, meaningful and thoughtful times the two of you had with each other and the children in Colorado. Now, Doug has been called to a new life in heaven. Scripture tells us that Joy is the business of heaven. Marissa you have been called to continue as the wonderful person and mother you are- like the woman in Proverbs 31-25 "She is clothed with strength and dignity and plans well for days to come. You, your boys, the Kings and the Martins will be in my prayers. I leave with you John 14-27: Peace I leave with you; MY peace I give you. I do not give as the world gives. Do not let your heart be troubled and do not be afraid. My love, Ruth Gray

My dear Marissa and the Martin family, Words are weak symbols for my emotions at this time. But as you walk this path of sorrow, may the loving thoughts and heartfelt prayers of your many relatives and friends bring you comfort. Doug was deeply loved and will be greatly missed. The same loving arms that ushered him unto this earth, welcomed him into heaven, and it is a much sweeter place now. I will wrap myself in beautiful memories and rest in the comfort of the love we shared together. May God hold all of you in the palm of His Hand. Remember, you can never bury your influence. Doug, I miss you and I will always love you. The memories I have with you and our cousins bring me so much joy. The little moments... like when we found a sled in Grandma and Grandpa’s garage. You slid down the big hill in the back yard...in the middle of summer. You bruised your rib cage but everyone was laughing till it hurt, you where too. You took me out on the jetski and that I can’t forget either. Flying down Lake Huron like we where untouchable. Our night time fires, sneaking beers, and staying up way to late. The last thanksgiving at the new lake house with you I will always remember. You showed Lauren and I a new song that you couldn’t get enough of...‘Leave The Light On’. Right now and always I will leave a light on for you, Doug. I love you and miss you!

Doug, You touched our lives and gave us so much joy when you became our son-in-law. We felt so blessed to have you in our lives. You were so easy to love. Your dear sons will be so proud of the man you became. The last time I saw you and Marissa in Colorado, we took the boys to the park and you and Jaxson ran and played on the soccer field. I remember his giggles as you two ran a race and you let him win. Just one fine memory of you, but there are many more which I will never forget. We miss you terribly and will hold you close in our hearts forever and will always love you.

I have not had many calls or messages that took my wind away quite as this has.Doug, I love you like one of my own. Sean, Bridgett, Jordan, and Evan, I am without any words that express how heartbroken I feel for you. For so long we spent virtually every day and evening as a big family, just doing what we could to show our kids and community how much they meant to us. I cannot think of a friend that was more unconditional and faithful then you Sean and Bridgett. I am so proud of Doug's accomplishments and I know he is with our Lord and Savior today! I love you all!

The world is a little dimmer and slower now. Dougie's magnetism was what helped you find him in a room, drawing you in—usually into one of his stories or regrettable childhood music choices. I took for granted that we would see each other throughout our lives. Orbiting each other through the privilege of family. Wishing peace and comfort to those who cared for Doug, especially his loving family and brothers in arms. May you be granted the courage to face the days ahead. I hold you all in my heart alongside those memories of him.
