Oh how we miss our wonderful loving caring Doctor😒 we always knew he loved our babies as much as we did, It was never about the money, it was about his love for animals and helping families that couldn’t afford today’s high cost for their care. His legacy will live on through his patients and all the animals he loved and cared for. It’s hard finding another Veterinaran who cared so much for our pets and his patients😢 but with Gods help we will make it through🙏🙏🙏 thank you Dr Allen for all You accomplished in this life and your love ❤️

Very very sad news! Dr. Allen was as kind and caring as he was professional and accomplished as a Vet! His gentle manner with our cherished pet friends made visits to his clinic less traumatic to our friends in need. We, his admirers, will bless him for his contribution to our community and keep our memories as testimony to his legacy! Blessed friend, rest now.

RIP Doc. You will be missed, especially by Annie and Ginny. Annie would bite Doc Allen every time he gave her a shot. He called her “sweetly” anyway and called it up to her being a calico.

Planning ahead is prudent. Call us now.

When I think of Doc Allen, 2 memories are burned in my brain. The first was Doc was going to put down a dog and the owners said that they would bring the dog inside when Doc was able to put their dog down. Doc said, "I'll go out to the car so the dog can remain comfortable." The second was I was overhearing Doc talking on the phone to a cat owner. The owner must have said that they could not afford to bring in their cat (who sounded like the cat was really sick). Doc told them to bring the cat in so they could help him and the owner could pay Doc whenever they could. That was Doc, a lover of animals. Another thing I remember about him was how stinking funny he was. One of my most favorite memory is how he and his wife came our wedding in 2008 in West Virginia. How many vets would go that far to say congrats to one of their clients. Doc had a HUGE heart, a funny wit and one of the speediest comebacks this side of the Mississippi. God rest Doc.

RIP. Such a great loss. I was blessed when I found Dr. Allen to be my vet. I always told him that he was the only vet that I would trust with my dog Sam. He always made me feel comfortable and was able to make Sam feel comfortable. I am going to miss him. Sending prayers to his family and his work family. He always had a smile on his face and you could tell he loved animals.

I was so saddened to hear of Doc's passing. He was the Best vet that a dog mom could have! He has been our vet since we got our Lily 6 years ago. And he was not judgmental because of her breed. I'll never forget the first time I asked him if there was anything he could recommend for her extremely bad gas....he looked me straight in the eye and said well what do you do when he farts & looked at my other half....I said well nothing. He said exactly! We knew from that moment forward we had the BEST man for the job. When my daughter got her 2 puppies a year ago there was no question who she was going to take them too. While I'm sorry for all of our loss, heaven definitely gained one of the BEST around. My condolences to both of his families biological and his family at Pleasant Valley. While I plan to still make the drive & stay my visits there will never be the same!
Janet Carpenter left a message on February 28, 2019:
I want to express my sincere sympathy. This was a man that I truly respected. He was always so friendly and pleasant and ready with a funny quip. He has cared for our dogs over the years, and put a couple of them down for us. He was a very kind man. John, you and your family will be in my prayers as you lay your dad to rest. May your fond memories sustain you.

For us and our animals, Doc was the best of the best. He lovingly treated our sweet sheltie, Abby, when she had cancer. He was bitten by our hateful cat, Wilson and laughed about it. Doc laughed with us, educated us and comforted us when we lost our Abby. I have never met a more knowledgeable veterinarian. My husband and I are deeply saddened by this loss of such an incredible man. Deepest Sympathy to the family.

I was very saddened to hear of Doc’s passing today. Doc Allen always went above and beyond to help care for mine and my parents dogs, even coming out to our truck to put them down so that they were not stressed during their final moments. But besides being a knowledgeable and compassionate DVM, that I always enjoyed his sense of humor—no person on earth has tickled my funny bone more over the years than him other than Johnny Carson. He was a master (underline master) at the art of dry humor. One time my parents dog Curley had a sore on his pee-pee. Doc looked at it, told the green Ohio State vet student that was interning to look at it after him. Just as the student leaned in to examine the sore, Doc Allen said “Well aren’t you going to blow in his ear or take him to dinner first”. That was Doc. You always imagine people being around. One time I asked him when he was going to retire. He said “I have horses, they’re expensive to keep—I can’t retire”. Last spring his wife passed away and those that knew him think he died of a broken heart because they were so close, her working right beside him as a receptionist in his practice. GodSpeed Doc, GodSpeed. See you on the other side and until then, I’ll do my best to keep your dry humor alive. My deepest condolences to the Allen Family & Pleasant Valley Veterinary Hospital.
